  Search Engine Optimization Tips.

  Title and Description Tags

Search engines, like Google and Yahoo, use the Title tag and Description meta tag in the display of search results and as major factors in showing pages in a ranked order. Keep the Title tag to 10 to 15 words in length and the Description meta tag to 15 to 20 tags.

In general when doing a search on one of the many search engines the phrases or keywords which match the search are highlighted in the search results. It is important to place the most important keywords which relate to a page into both the Title tag and the Description meta tag. Also, the most important keywords should be placed at the beginning of the Title tag and Description meta tag.

Finally, don't forget that it is not simply a case of loading keywords and phrases into the Title tag and Description meta tag for SEO purposes, the tags have to be readable to the people making the searches otherwise they will be less likely to click on your link and all of your Search Engine Optimization and web design have been in vane.

Tip: Do not name your pages in a random manner. Always use 2 or 3 of the most important keywords to name the page. Similarly if you are using subdirectories, use the important keywords to name the directories so you end up with a URL like this: http://www.webboosting.co.uk/searchengineoptimizationtags.shtml
