Valid HTML
Use correct HTML. Rather than give any tutorial on correct HTML which would just be a repeat of one of the many excellent tutorials on the web: this site has invaluable tools which will tell you all that is wrong with your web page - The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C)
Frames
Frames are generally frowned upon. Pages displayed within frames may be viewed as being much less important for the purpose of search engine ranking than pages not viewed through frames. You should also be aware that some web designers and hosts will use 'frame forwarding' to conceal the address that pages are actually hosted on as opposed to the domain name that you have registered. If all the pages on your website have the same page address then you may have a problem and should discuss it with your web host.
JAVA
Java and Javascript are excellent languages for adding features to a site. One of the most frequent uses is to create stylish menu's for navigating a web site. There is a downside to this great functionality: Search Engines won't necessarily follow the Java to index your site.
If you must use Java as the main means of site navigation, and you should bare in mind that not every browser has Java enabled - indeed some organisations' IT policy actively forbids the use of Java and Javascript, you should provide an alternative HTML based method of navigating your site.
SWF Shock Wave Flash
Flash, like Java, is an excellent tool for enhancing the look of a website. As with Java, Search Engines are currently unable to index the content of Shock Wave Flash files.
Increasingly we come across websites that are a minimal home page the sole purpose of which is to launch an SWF movie which contains the entire content of the site. Unfortunately we also find that none of the content of these sites get indexed by the search engines and so, despite an excellent look and feel, few visitors find the site.
As with Java, SWF has it's place in the design of a website, but, content should not be buried within it nor should it be used as the sole method of navigating the website - the browser viewing your site may not be Flash enabled.
Tip: If you have a large website it is a good policy to include a site map. (Keep the number of links on any single page below 100.) This both ensures that search engines can index the entire site and that people viewing the site can find all of the pages the wish to view easily.
